Essex man dies after collision with lorry on the M20 in Ashford

A motorist from Essex has died after he was struck by a lorry on the London-bound M20 in Kent this morning. The 56-year-old died after he got out of his VW silver caddy van at around 1.30am today (May 2) after parking on the hard shoulder. Kent Police said he left his vehicle unattended. He was then in collision with the lorry. Hos family has been informed, although the police have not disclosed where in Essex he was from. PC Glen Braidwood of Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "For reasons yet to be established, the man appears to have entered the carriageway and was then in collision with an articulated goods vehicle. "He was pronounced deceased at the scene. "Kent Police has launched an investigation but no arrests have been made." Anyone with information about the incident has been asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538 The deceased's next of kin has been made aware. The London-bound carriageway was closed, with officers leaving the scene at 6.40am and handing over to partners from the Highways Agency to clear the area ready for the road to be reopened.
