A barn fire in Ashdon, Saffron Walden has left a number of animals dead.
Fire fighters attended the site on Bartlow Road at 6.19am today and found that the barn was well alight and full of smoke.
The crew wore breathing apparatus and used two hose reels to tackle a blaze in the barn which measured 20 metres by 50 metres.
At 6.58am the fire was surrounded and all surviving livestock had been removed from the barn, which was sectioned off to accommodate the animals and farm machinery.
Fire fighters then brought the blaze under control, while at the same time clearing the building of smoke by 7.19am.
Although crews were able to rescue livestock from the barn, a number of animals died in the fire.
A fire investigation will be carried out to establish the cause.
