Chelmsford, Tilbury, Harlow and Thurrock are among towns in Essex to have been slammed on a website dedicated to pointing out the worst parts of the UK.
The city comes in for heavy anonymous and offensive criticism on the ilivehere.co.uk site, including from a commenter who criticises Central Park and the Meadgate Estate.
Another entry hits out at the nightlife in Chelmsford. "Basically, if you're not dressed like an identikit clone of Danniella Westbrook, you're not allowed in. Fine by me."
Some of the entries, from some who again, choose not to reveal their identities, are too derogatory to reproduce here, but another also describes Duke Street as 'chav culinary heaven'.
One person also claims to have been threatened while standing close to the skate park in Central Park, but other commenters on the website have spoken in support of the town:
cky_1254 wrote: "Sure Chelmsford does have a lot of Chavs but go down to the Cental Park skate ramps on ant weekend and you will see plenty of skaters, punk rockers and other people who are proud to be individual and/or differnet (sic)."
And hards added: To the author:not having a go or nithing, each to their own opinions fair play, but if u really hate chelmsford so much why dont you leave? The place is great. nice birds too."
Elsewhere, Harlow is damned as a place full of "characterless housing estates" and banal shrines of grey concrete.
"With the exception of Old Harlow, each area of the town blends together to form a tapestry of despair and dereliction complete with its own soulless precinct adorned with newsagents that sell warm beer, stale crisps and cottage cheese in milk cartons," the comment reads.
Tilbury is described as a "slum" and "shantytown", by commenter 'Jack' with people inside it who wear Adidas and Lonsdale as a compulsory uniform.
It is also described as a place with dilapidated terraced houses which would the 1984 film 'Threads' a run for its money.
"The aforementioned film was set in the aftermath of a nuclear bomb explosion," it adds helpfully, citing the odour of urban decay.
