An Essex Police spokesman said: "Police officers were called by ambulance services to a man collapsed in the street in Bronte Road in Witham at around 3.15am on June 1.
"Sadly the man died, he had not been formally identified, but he is believed to be a 35 year-old Polish national living in the Witham area. His death is being treated as sudden and at this time unexplained."
A Bronte Road resident, said: "Police came round with a photo and asked everyone who our neighbours were. I was quite shocked as you'd expect there to be loads of vans and the police to cordon off the area when there's a dead body, but there was just a couple of vans."
