THIS straw police officer and his 'minions' are proving an unlikely deterrent to speeding motorists.
The fake Bobbie and his Despicable Me animated film characters are keeping a watchful eye on drivers passing through Ford End, two weeks following the village's scarecrow festival.
One of the organisers Andrew Brown said: "Cars come steaming into the village and see what looks a policeman hiding behind this sign and immediately slam on their brakes.
"On the day of the festival the average was 22mph with people slowing to look."
About 400 visitors to the scarecrow festival raised more than £1,400 for future work to be carried out at the village hall.
