Essex batsman Alastair Cook insists he will not resign as England captain despite a sixth defeat in seven Test matches.
England were two balls away from saving the second Test at Headingley on Tuesday, but Jimmy Anderson fell and Sri Lanka claimed a series win with the 100-run success.
Many pundits have raised questions over Cook's future, with BBC TMS man Geoffrey Boycott saying the performance over the weekend was a "recipe for resignation".
But a defiant Cook insists he has no intention of standing down.
"I've never quit on anything," Cook said. "I'm incredibly proud to be England captain.
"It's a huge honour and I'm in it for the long haul.
"I'm desperate to help turn English cricket around.
"I believe I'm the right man for the job. "I've given it my all, all the time.
"If someone decides I'm not the right person for the job, then fine."
