Detectives are investigating after a 20-year-old clubber was reportedly beaten by three men outside Evoke nightclub in Chelmsford

Barber Chase Roberts, of Springfield, suffered a broken nose, a fractured sinus and a suspected air pocket under his cheek after the attack at about 3am on Sunday (June 29).

Speaking to the Chronicle he explained how the group dragged him around a corner in Market Road before apparently assaulting him.

Mr Roberts said: "Me, my girlfriend and my girlfriend's younger sister were sitting on the floor outside Evoke trying to arrange a lift home as she didn't feel too well when a group of blokes walked passed and started swearing at my girlfriend and her younger sister for no apparent reason, calling them sl**s.

"One boy got right up in my girlfriend's younger sister's face and she was getting really scared.

"I got up to intervene to get them to leave it along.

"Nothing was provoked and the next thing I knew three boys dragged me around the corner."

Following the attack Mr Roberts spent 11 hours in Broomfield Hospital and is attending ongoing medical appointments.

"To be honest with all the shock that was going on there wasn't much pain until the next morning. My eyes were closed in seconds," added Mr Roberts, an ex-Boswells School pupil.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "Detectives are investigating an assault at Chelmsford at which a man received serious facial injuries."

Any witnesses should call Chelmsford CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
