Police called to Witham following reports of a man with a crossbow recovered an arsenal of weapons and made four arrests.
Armed officers responded to the call at Newland Street, at around 12.50am this morning.
Three men aged 39, 21 and 18 from the town were arrested as well as an 19-year-old woman from Colchester.
All were arrested on suspicion of possessing offensive weapons.
Among the items recovered were the crossbow as well as a sword and a machette.
All four remain in custody.
