Chelmsford City manager Mark Hawkes has paid tribute to departing chairman Mansell Wallace.
Wallace brought Hawkes over from Heybridge Swifts in November as the Clarets avoided Conference South relegation.
But with the shock news of Wallace's resignation last month, Hawkes is sad to see his employer leave.
He said: "It is a shame that Mansell has had to step down. I will ever be in his debt for giving me the chance to be manager at such a wonderful club like Chelmsford City."
The Clarets are expected to appoint a new chairman soon after advertising the position, but Hawkes has stated that he is keeping himself away from the decision.
He added: "The choice is nothing that I have been involved. My first port of call is the director of football and he conveys our conversation to the board. We will just have to wait and see what happens to the club."
