Police have confirmed that a person hit and killed by a train at Chelmsford railway station last night (July 8) was a woman from Witham.
The 53-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics after being discovered by British Transport Police (BTP) and Essex Police officers at around 9.45pm. Her family has been informed.
The incident caused delays of up to an hour for commuters travelling to and from London Liverpool Street.
A BTP spokesman said her death was being treated as non-suspicious. A file has been passed to the coroner.
