WHEN ITV cut to a commercial break as the Tour de France passed through the county city, they inadvertently upset thousands of proud Chelmsfordians watching or recording the historic event at home.

But that lost footage is now available, thanks to Chelmsford City Council.
The authority's cabinet member for leisure and culture, Cllr Ray Ride said: "The world's greatest cycle race arrived in our city on July 7 bringing thousands of fans to our roadsides to cheer on one of the most famous sporting spectacles – the Tour de France.
"The scale of the event was massive with 200 riders, 2,000 support vehicles and up to 5,000 officials and press staff making their way through our city. This gave Chelmsford a fantastic opportunity to showcase all the wonderful features that we enjoy."
The council estimates 75,00 0 spectators lined the route between Hartford End, near Felsted, and through Chelmsford to Roxwell, while another 5,000 watched from a big screen in Admirals Park.
