Detectives want to speak to commuters on the Southend Victoria to Shenfield train - after it was taken out of service on Sunday (July 13) when a man said he was attacked. The 6.15am service was cancelled when a 36-year-old man stepped off the rear carriage and told staff he had been headbutted. He was rushed to hospital for treatment. The victim described his assailant as around 5ft 9ins with a 'skinhead' haircut. Detective Constable David Bishop said:"He said that he had been attacked by another man, who had headbutted him several times." "Due to the nature of the assault, the train was taken out of service. "The victim was left with a laceration above his right eye which required hospital treatment." "We are in the early stages of investigating this incident and need to speak to anyone on that train who witnessed this assault." Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting reference ESUB/B8 of 16/07/2014. Information can also be reported to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
