A man has been remanded in custody after appearing in Chelmsford Magistrates' Court yesterday (July 15) accused of robbing the Co-operative store in Galleywood of a three-figure sum and scratch cards.
Robert Downey, 32, of Wordsworth Court, Chelmsford, is now due to appear in Chelmsford Crown Court in September
He has been charged with robbery, four counts of assaulting a police officer, and one count of being in possession of an imitation firearm, in relation to an alleged incident at 7pm on Sunday, July 13.
He is also charged with one count of failing to attend a Class A drug addiction assessment and one count of being in possession of a knife in a public place.
Police said a man walked into the store in Barnard Road threatening staff with violence if they did not hand over the money.
