Two working fire crews have put out a blaze near Chelmsford this morning as fire union members are on strike over government pension proposals.

The pair of fire engines rushed to Brooks Brothers timber yard in Twitty Fee, Danbury at 6.34am after an extractor unit was '100 per cent' alight, according to crews at the scene.

Two hoses reels were used to put out the fire by 7.15am. Crews are turning over the debris to ensure there are no hotspots.

A fire investigation will take place to examine the cause of the blaze.

No-one was injured in the incident.

The blaze happened during the first of two two-hour strikes by members of the Fire Brigades Union today. The other will take place between 5 - 7pm tonight as part of eight day-long action over government proposals to increase retirement age and change firefighter pensions.
