The opening ceremony for the Commonwealth Games gets under way in Glasgow's Celtic Park, the home of Celtic FC.
Singer Rod Stewart will headline the event, which will also feature Susan Boyle and Amy Macdonald performing in front of an expected 40,000 strong crowd.
Locals are expected to be involved, with the ceremony aimed at showing people around the world what 'Glasgow is made of', while celebrating unity and diversity.
It is not expected to rival Danny Boyle's effort for the London 2012 Olympic Games opening ceremony.
More than one million tickets have been sold for the event, although there are fears over the number of empty seats, with plenty of room still left at many venues.
Live coverage will start on BBC One from 8pm
