A pensioner was rushed to hospital after a car crashed into a sheltered housing complex in Maldon.
A woman in her nineties required hospital treatment after the car collided with a wall at Berridge House, on Mill Road, at around 7pm on Tuesday evening.
Emergency crews attended the scene where the external wall of the complex was destroyed, and it is thought two windows at the accommodation were also smashed.
The extent of the woman's injuries are not yet known.
Onlooker Richard Hockey said: "The car got to the sharp corner of the entrance to Promenade Park and the elderly chap either fell ill or something and drove straight through the wall of Berridge House.
"Windows were smashed and the wall was destroyed. It's a very busy corner, there are normally teenagers and the fair was just setting up outside."
