Practicalities might not be top of the list for V Festival-goers this year, but it's a never a good idea to go unprepared.

Getting that festival look is so important - and it can be attained simply by grabbing the right items from the wardrobe.

Follow our simple guide below to ensure your trip to Hylands Park goes without a hitch

MEN

DO: Wear shorts. As well as their practicality for the summer heat, shorts are now a fashionable piece of attire in their own right. Denim, corduroy or chino shorts all look great at festivals.

DON'T: Forget the essentials. Although a waterproof poncho may not be the most glamorous item, it's probably up there with the most fundamental.

DO: Pastel shirts with rolled up sleeves are the go-to item for men this summer. It reproduces the vintage style of the 90s, whilst also keeping you cool enough throughout the day, and warm enough as nightime approaches.

DON'T: Wear a huge rucksack around the festival. It's useful, but ultimately unnecessary. Nobody wants to be behind the guy with a huge rucksack obscuring the view of their favourite band. A smaller bag such as a fanny pack or cross-body bag will be ideal.

DO: Wear fancy dress. Essentially, festivals are about fun. So for the less fashion-conscious, fancy dress can be a great way to get people talking and heightening your enjoyment of the weekend.

DON'T: Wear skinny jeans. They may make you look and feel akin to the cool bands on stage, but when it's scorching hot, you'll wish you were wearing something a bit more sensible.

For the girls:

DO: Invest in bindis and flower headbands which are very much in vogue this summer; the perfect accessory to emphasise your style and individuality, making you stand out from all the other festival goers.

DON'T: Wear flip-flops or sandals. It may be hot, but festivals require footwear that prevent your toes getting crushed in large crowds.

DO: Wear a maxi dress. Festivals are all about maneuverability, so the ability to be able to dance without any constrictions is crucial. Additionally, with the exposure to a baking sun all day, you'll be thankful for a looser and lighter dress.

DON'T: Wear jewelery. Your expensive silver and gold rings will inevitably be lost within the first hour of putting up your tent, and 'fake' rings will soon paint your fingers green once you sweat.

DO: Remember to bring some inexpensive sunglasses. Not only for their functionality, but your shades can also be the cherry on top of a perfect outfit.

DON'T: Wear all white. Your outfit will just get dirty. White is a natural haven for mud, beer and sweat, so choosing brighter or darker colours will masque the inescapable mess you'll make.
