It's three in, three out at Maldon & Tiptree

MALDON and Tiptree have released defenders Michael Fitzgibbon, Bradley Vaughan and Spencer Harrison in a busy week for the club.

But as manager Terry Spillane looks to carry on bolstering his squad, he has brought in Daniel Smith, Sipho Mtyando and Grant Eagle.

And Spillane made it clear that it was not an easy decision to let the trio go.

He said: "We have released them through choice, but they are all good lads so it was a really tough decision for me.

"They are really nice guys, but where we have signed players I just didn't see them getting into the side and maybe not the squad. I had a good chat with them and we thought it was best.

"They should be playing football regularly and I think that Mike going over to Heybridge Swifts may be a done deal. That is what he needs to do, make sure he plays and not just sit on the periphery, which is the same with Spencer as well."

"Sipho has been on trial the last few games, having been at Brentwood last year. He's a right-sided midfielder or wing back that could be really useful for us.

"Grant is a striker who has been at AFC Hornchurch and East Thurrock, but unfortunately was just not able to break into their first teams.

"But he is a young lad that is a little bit different to the guys that we have got here at the moment. It was a bit of a no brainer to bring him really, he's very pacy and can play in the number 10 role.

"Danny was at the club about three seasons ago, can play right-back and was Redbridge captain last year.

"He just fits into what we were looking for. We have released three defenders, so we had to get people in that ticks all the boxes for us."

Despite his three new signings, Spillane is sure that his summer transfers have not finished as the season kicks off in only 10 days.

He added: "We are getting towards the business end but I am really happy with what I have got.

"I'm not going to say that it is done and dusted, as over the next week there may be a lot of players dropping down from the league above.

"If the right player comes up that I feel will improve the squad then we will go down that route."
