A cow is believed to have been struck dead by a vehicle on the A12 in Hatfield Peverel.
Commuters reported spotting the animal lying motionless on the hard shoulder of the southbound carriageway shortly after 6am this morning (Thursday, September 18).
Patrick Duffy tweeted: "Just saw a dead cow on the side of the A12"
Joey tweeted: "anyone see the giant road kill just after Witham? Was it a horse? A cow? It looked like a baby elephant!! so sad whatever it was."
The Highways Agency report that traffic is queuing on the busy road back to Kelvedon after one lane had to be closed off.
