A YOUNG woman was knocked unconscious in a hit-and-run on Sunday night.
The 18-year-old woman from Braintree was walking along the pavement at Skitts Hill, coming up to Challis Lane, on Sunday (November 18) when she was hit by the car, which did not stop.
Passers-by stopped to help the woman, covering her with coats and blankets and giving her first aid while they waited for an ambulance to arrive.
The incident
happened at around 8.15pm and the woman suffered cuts, bruises and whiplash.
Investigating officer Pc Alex Southgate said: "The woman was walking along
the pavement when the passing car's wing mirror caught her bag strap and spun
her round. She fell to the ground and hit her head so hard that she was knocked
unconscious.
"The driver must have seen what happened but failed to stop and continued
travelling up Skitts Hill towards Notley Road.
"Although the injuries turned out to be minor, this would easily have been
much more serious, or could have had fatal consequences, if the woman had been
dragged along by the car."
Any witnesses or anyone with information about the car or driver should contact
Pc Southgate at Stanway on 101 or send an email to alex.southgate@essex.pnn.police.uk
