Girls run all the way to a national athletics final

THESE jet-heeled youngsters have battled past more than 1,500 teams to make it through to the finals of a national athletics competition.

For the second year running the junior girls team at Moulsham High School are through to the last stage of the English Schools Athletics Association School's Cross Country Cup, which takes place in Bolton on Saturday, December 1.

Karen Whitmash, teacher of PE, said: "All the girls performed fantastically and I am delighted that the team has qualified again.

"This is a real achievement and the students should be very proud of themselves for their achievements."

The team of Rachel Broome, Kate Etheridge, Alice Ronn, Maddie Archer, Holly Eaton and Mollie Mills got through the opening round last month which started with 1,511 teams across the country from 519 schools.

The leading teams from all the competitions held in across counties then progressed to compete in one of eight regional finals and the girls put in some excellent performances at Gloucester Park, Basildon, on Saturday, November 10, to finish third overall in the regional round.
