A MURDER investigation has been launched and a suspect arrested after the discovery of a body in Chelmsford this morning (September 30).
The dead man, thought to be local to the area and in his 40s, was found in a first floor flat in Broomfield Road, at around 8.30am with "multiple injuries".
A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in custody at Chelmsford Police Station.
PC Yari Forster said at the scene: "There is a body and it has been contained so far.
"CID have turned up and they are taking over."
Police have taped off part of the Chelmsford City Council West End car park next door to The Ship pub. It is thought the man's body was found in a flat above Sanctus, a cafe for the homeless and vulnerable.
Richard Turner, a temps controller at Reliance Employment two doors away from Sanctus, said: "A blonde woman who lives in the flat just shouted 'Is he dead? I can't look.'
"Someone answered out to her and she said 'Oh my god, someone call the police'.
"I came back into work and came back out later and they were all milling about outside."
DCI Martin Pasmore, who is leading the investigation, appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
He said: "I'm keen to speak to anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area. The victim was found with stab injuries in a property on a busy road and I would urge anyone with information to contact me."
Anyone with information should contact Essex Police on 101.
