A MOTHER shot dead by her son in Crays Hill has been described as a "loving caring person" by her family.
The body of Maureen Tyler, 79, was found alongside that of her son, Mark Tyler, 37, by police officers on Monday night. Both had gunshot wounds.
The pair were discovered at Ms Tyler's bungalow, in Pitsea View Road, after concerns were raised for the occupants.
It is not clear when they died and police believe their bodies had lain there for some days prior to their discovery.
The Tyler family released a statement that read: "Maureen Tyler was a much loved member of her family. She was born in London and lived most of her life in the Billericay area.
"Though now retired, she had various jobs during her working life including working in the local village shop at Crays Hill."
Police are treating Ms Tyler's death as murder and that of her son, who was from Carlisle Way, in Pitsea, as non-suspicious.
It is believed that Mr Tyler shot his mother before turning the gun on himself.
Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.
Provisional post-mortem examination results showed that both died from gunshot wounds.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances around the deaths.
Senior Investigating Officer, DCI Lucy Robinson, said: "We would appreciate the public's help in building a picture of their movements prior to their deaths, so anyone who spoke to them or saw them is asked to contact detectives at Brentwood SCT on 101 or email SCDAppeals@essex.pnn.police.uk."
