A HUSBAND who lost his wife to bowel cancer earlier this year has finally put an end to his own stomach illness.
John Yarrow, 65, has suffered from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) for 20 years, with bloating, nausea and flatulence blighting his day-to-day life.
After watching his wife Irene battle her recurrent cancer over 12 years, the cleaning company boss put his own discomfort to one side.
Yet just weeks after discovering a new treatment, the father-of-one believes he is finally cured of his IBS. Mr Yarrow said: "I just thought it was one of those things you had to get on with.
"I tried to not let it stop me doing anything, even though things like karate, which I do, can aggravate it.
"The doctor did say there would probably be a cure in the next few years, but none of the normal treatments or probiotic yoghurts have worked so far."
Symprove is the first non-dairy probiotic drink to be tested in the UK under clinical standards in a groundbreaking medical trial by King's College Hospital in London.
In the trial, the symptoms of 60 per cent of IBS sufferers eased after consuming the drink.
Mr Yarrow, of Grange Road, Great Burstead, said: "Symprove has been brilliant.
"I've been on it nearly a month now and I would say three-quarters of my symptoms have gone.
"You're meant to be on it for three months for the full effect, but it's already started working for me and I couldn't recommend it more highly.
"Irene had recurrent bowel cancer for more than 12 years and with what she went through, obviously my IBS didn't compare. But, it is great to be feeling so much better."
