THE unlucky driver of this car in Burnham was one of scores of motorists who found themselves stuck after driving through floodwater as heavy rain caused havoc in Essex this week.
The female driver had to abandon her car after attempting to drive through four-and-a-half feet of water at Creeksea Bridge.
Just an hour before this incident another motorist had to be towed out after also getting stuck in the flood.
Chris Fugeman, who took this photo, said: "I was on my way to my shop Marts Parts in Burnham at 8am when I saw the car floating in the water.
"I just thought 'oh no', we usually get one incident a year of really bad flooding but it seems to be more and more common now.
"The bridge is the only way in and out of lower Creeksea, and although there's been flooding I've never, in my 12 years of living here, seen a car floating in the water before."
Essex has suffered a wet April, June and July and experts say the county is on track for its wettest year ever.
As the Environment Agency issued flood warnings around the district, quick action prevented flood damage in parts of Heybridge.
Cllr Bryan Harker said: "The Environment Agency issued some sandbags but really they asked local residents to make sure their ditches were clear so the water could run away. This really made a huge difference, and the quick action made sure Heybridge didn't flood as it has in the past."
