Much of Essex is expected to be hit by some unpleasant weather today as people hit the Boxing Day sales.
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow - although much of it is expected to fall in a southeasterly direction as sleet and rain throughout the day.
Where snow could fall, forecasters have warned it could reach levels as high as 10cm on higher ground.
The warning is valid until 6am tomorrow (December 27).
The Met Office chief forecaster said: "There is more confidence now in the track of the depression, the main uncertainty revolving around the balance between rain and snow, which depends on the intensity.
"Where snow does occur accumulations of 2 to 4cm are likely even to lower levels, with more than 10 cm on high ground.
"There is the risk of 10-15 cm, even at low levels, parts of Wales and the Midlands being most at risk.
