THE victim of last year's A12 attacks has urged the yobs who threw a rock at a passing van in Witham to look at her photograph and think again.

A driver in his forties from Clacton escaped injury after a rock was thrown from the bridge over Highfields Road at about 3.15pm last Thursday – instead smashing his left side headlight.

The incident occurred almost a year to the day that a grandmother was left fighting for her life after a 25-kilogram block of concrete was thrown through her car windscreen from a bridge over the A12.

Carol Manley, 58, broke her nose, both her cheekbones and all her ribs in the attack, and is warning the Witham perpetrators to think about the consequences of their actions.

"I nearly died," said Carol, a mother-of-four. "My husband thought I had been killed. My son and daughters nearly did not have a mother.

"I would urge anyone who throws anything off a bridge to think before they act. To think about the people you could hurt and the families of these people.

"People must have seen the photographs of me in hospital. I would urge the people who did this to look at them.

"If it makes them think twice it can only be a good thing."

Last week's incident involved a blue VW Transporter van and caused damage worth £130.

Police are treating the incident as criminal damage endangering life and are appealing for any witnesses to contact Witham police station on 101.
