Billericay edge tight cup clash

RUGBY: Billericay started this round of the National Cup playing up the hill at Willowbrook and had a strong start dominating the possession which resulted in a penalty inside the home 22.

Billericay then had total forward dominance and from the penalty called for a scrum about seven meters from the Old Merchant Taylors' try line. This resulted in the first try of the game as the Billericay pack pushed over, touched down by Jason Hendy. The conversion was missed.

Old Merchant Taylors hit back after winning a penalty to make it 5-3 and they added another three points when their kicker converted from within their own half.

Billericay immediately replied with a penalty kicked by fly-half Dan Kell, but from the kick off Billericay were penalised again and another conversion made it 8-9 at the break.

Ten minutes into the second half Old Merchant Taylors were caught offside in their 22 which lead to an easy penalty for Kell.

The opposition won a turn over inside their own 22 and ran the ball wide, breaking the Billericay defence the scored an unconverted try in the corner making it 11-14.

Finally after pressure Billericay took a scrum against the head and pushed Old Merchant Taylors towards their try line again this time with Ben Campion touching the ball down.

The try was converted by Kell bringing the score to 18-14.

Billericay held on to the lead and progressed into the next round of the National Cup.
