DESPITE only being together for four months this duo have been crowned British Pairs champions.
Steven Adcock, 17, from Chelmsford and his partner Robynne Tweedale won the event in Sheffield at the end of November.
But while most pairs have been training together for years they were only thrown together by coaching staff at the start of the summer.
And such is Robynee's dedication that she travels down from South Yorkshire to practice with Steven at the Riverside Ice Rink every weekend.
"It was quite a late get together after our exams," explained Steven who is currently studying for his A Levels at Chelmer Valley High School.
"It's been a bit rushed and we've been training really hard over the summer to get to the standard that we need to be to get to the British Championships."
And although he's not quite sure how they got together he's pleased they did. "We get on really well and that's important," he said.
"It's luck of the draw really. You don't want to be arguing with your partner."
They qualified by virtue of coming second in the Lombardia Trophy in Milan and for good measure they won the Welsh Junior Pairs title in October.
As one of only two double acts to reach the qualifying standard for the British Championships they performed two routines; a short and a long to beat their rivals by eight points.
"Winning it, I was over the moon. I didn't really see it coming with us getting together so late in the season," he added.
Steven also finished eighth in the individual British Championships on the same weekend.
He started the sport at the age of five during a summer course at the Riverside.
He competed in several regional competitions before qualifying as a novice for the British Championships at the age of 14.
The pair will now have a rest over Christmas before training begins for next season.
