A MEMBER of the public detained a fleeing robbery suspect in Chelmsford after a pensioner was knocked over and her handbag stolen.
The robbery happened on Waterhouse Lane at around midday this afternoon (May 7).
The woman in her 80s was knocked to the ground and as the suspected robber fled the scene a member of the public chased after him and caught him in Meteor Way.
Police arrived a few minutes later and arrested a 32-year-old Chelmsford man on suspicion of robbery.
A spokesman for the force: "A man is being questioned by police after a robbery on Waterhouse Lane, Chelmsford.
"The victim, a woman in her 80s, was knocked to the ground and her handbag was stolen.
"A member of the public gave chase and detained the suspect in Meteor Way.
"The woman received minor injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance.
"A 32-year-old man from Chelmsford was arrested on suspicion of robbery and is helping officers with their inquiries."
