ESSEX Redbacks Baseball Club – now renamed Redbacks Baseball & Softball – has celebrated an excellent year throughout the organisation and set the foundations for further developments, including a new softball programme, at the AGM and awards evenings.
Matt Jennings was re-elected as chairman at the AGM at the Ford County Ground on Friday, November 16, Sean Briscomb retains his position as secretary and Richard Crabb will stay on as treasurer.
Neil Hall moves up from Junior Officer to Senior Officer, while Rob Yuille has taken on the mantle of junior officer for the 2013 season.
Alongside the plans to develop the current baseball and community outreach programmes that have helped shape the success of the Redbacks, they also plan to introduce softball to Essex and during the 2013 season will invite anyone interested in taking up the sport.
On Saturday evening, the Redbacks held its first annual organisation-wide awards.
Of the special awards for outstanding achievement, Ryan Pocock was named 'Rookie of the Year' having taken to baseball since joining the Redbacks in January, while Sean Briscomb won 'Club person of the Year' for his relentless work running and organising the Redbacks at every level throughout the organisation.
