Video: Chelmsford man Ben Jolly handed three-year driving ban after speeding at 70mph through city streets

A Chelmsford man has received a three-year driving ban having admitted a catalogue of driving offences committed in the early hours of New Year's Day – while at nearly twice the drink drive limit. Ben Jolly, 27, of Hillary Close, drove a Vauxhall Zafira car belonging to his girlfriend at speeds of up to 70mph around residential areas of Chelmsford and failed to stop for police at 12.15am. The Zafira was pursued by police on the ground and by air, finally abandoning the vehicle in Aubrey Close and running through a number of back gardens before being arrested. The full list of offences Jolly admitted were:• Aggravated vehicle taking• Dangerous driving• Drink driving• Failing to stop• Using a motor vehicle without insurance• Driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence• Possession of cannabis He also received a nine month prison sentence suspended for two years, ordered to do 120 hours of unpaid work and to undertake a thinking skills course.
